Lesson #16: Sleep Is NOT the enemy!
Anyone that tells you sleep is the enemy is delusional! Some will say that in order for you to truly be on top of your game you have to be willing to lose sleep, WRONG! Now, what I will say is that in order to be on top of your game, you have to be willing to work while others are sleeping. You have to be willing to go where others will not. You have to be willing to do what others will not! None of that says you have to sacrifice mental sharpness and physical awareness to do so and that is what you do when you do not sleep at all. The goal is always to be one step ahead; keep losing sleep and you will find that you are making mistakes more frequently, you aren’t completing tasks as quickly and that you are more forgetful than usual. When planning for the retreat there were many sleepless nights just trying to make sure everything was in place. The actual night before the event I didn’t sleep at all and set out to be fully engaged in a 10 hour day. This wasn’t a 10 hour day of sitting down looking at a computer screen, no this was 10 hours of trying to impact lives, I had to be ALL IN! By the time the afternoon sessions rolled around I was running on vapors. I was becoming irritable, I gave away items meant to yield a profit for free and I became disconnected when I wasn’t specifically required to talk. It was all because I needed to sleep. My mom rode with me to the venue that morning to set up, THANK GOD, by the end of the day I was so sleepy I had to pull over on the side of the road to have her drive back. All I wanted to do was close my eyes! When I got home I slept for 12 hours straight. The long and short about sleep is our bodies needs it, our minds needs it, end of story!
